Genesis GV60 boot space, practicality and safety

2022 onwards (change model)
Practicality rating: 3.8 out of 53.8

  • Cabin is plush and has plenty of room front and rear
  • Excellent storage space in the cabin
  • Rear boot is well shaped – and there’s a small one at the front

How much space is there?

If you’re buying a Genesis GV60 as a family car, you’ll be largely impressed. Up front, you’re supremely well catered for, with oodles of legroom and loads of adjustment. It’s those in the rear who will be the best served, though. There’s literally lounging room thanks to all of that legroom, and because there’s a nice, wide cabin you’ll get three across the rear bench without too many issues.

It’s not quite perfect, though, as there’s not enough footroom for rear-seat passengers under the front seats. Also, headroom in the rear isn’t quite as impressive as that in the front because of its sloping coupe-SUV roofine.

But overall, interior room is one of the best aspects of this car – it’s a genuine family car that’s great for four and more than acceptable for five. However, the luggage space isn’t quite the same story.

Genesis GV60 review (2022)
The GV60’s rear seat is lushly appointed and very spacious.

Boot space and storage

The GV60’s boot space is unimpressive at 432 litres when compared with other SUVs, such as the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4, but it is well-shaped and therefore easily capable of swallowing a weekly big shop or a couple of buggies.

Positives are the folding rear seats that lie flat when dropped, which is great when carrying large and bulky items. For those who like a tidy boot, there’s ample underfloor storage for charging cables. It also has a small front boot, with 53 litres of space in the single-motor Premium and 20 litres in the dual-motor Sport and Sport Plus.

As you’d expect for a cutting-edge EV, there’s lots of interior space for your nik-naks and tech. There is the obligatory pair of cupholders, a central storage area under the armrest, a tray beneath the dashboard and an impressively large glovebox.

The boot is unimpressive by the standards of the class.

Is it easy to park?

The GV60 isn’t too big for UK parking spaces, is easy to see out of and is absolutely peppered with parking cameras, even if they can be slightly inconsistent in their display, with multiple displays not being completely synchonised. The best aspect is the forward visibility, which is uncluttered, nice and clear – not so when you’re looking through the rear and side windows.

Safety

  • Euro NCAP five-star result
  • Excellent collision avoidance technology
  • A perfect embodiment of why EVs are safe cars

The GV60 earned five stars in its ability to protect adults, children, vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians, as well as its safety assistance features. In this ‘Safety Assist’ category, it earned a very healthy 88% score, the highest that Euro NCAP has awarded to date under its 2022 testing protocols.

The Euro NCAP results also demonstrate the GV60’s all-electric architecture and powertrain design ensure the structural integrity of the vehicle and protects occupants with its fortified battery pack, rigid passenger compartment, and overall low centre of gravity.
