Honda Accord Hatchback 2.0i VTEC SE Executive 5d (99) (2000/W) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Superb value. Fully loaded - nearly £21k new, £9k at 2 years old. Nuff said...
Costs
Parts and servicing is extortionate, but it's still under warranty - for now. Insurance is ok, but very heavy on fuel - well under 30 mpg.

On the road
Driving
Very nice to drive; smooth and quiet, tight handling and supple ride. At its best on the motorway. Feels solid at any speed.
Performance
Predictably gutless under 3000, which is starting to become irritating, though the VTEC redeems this to a point. This is the Accord's Achilles heel and it's a bad one.

Living with it
Reliability
Legendary reputation is well deserved - so far. As with any car, only time will tell.
Image
Yes, it's dull, but then it's not common, sad or loud either - just nicely understated, which is fine by me.
Comfort
Seats are A1. Climate and cruise control, BOSE stereo is fab - can't ask for more...

Security and Service
Security
Alarm and deadlocks so hopefully ok, though no one's tried yet!
Service
Dealer has been appalling and so have Honda themselves, which is surprising, given their normally good reputation.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
None, but need to watch oil level.
Other
Slight rattle from driver's door (noticed I'm not alone here!) and fuel light is a born liar.
