Honda Civic Hatchback 1.8 VTi-S 5d (1999/V) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Expensive new, but I paid a good price buying it from the lease company at the contract end as my company car.
Costs
Some parts are expensive, some surprisingly cheap. Not the most economical, but it could be worse.
-
On the road
Driving
Storming performance, grip and handling in any weather. LSD is marvellous, especially in wet, snow or muddy fields
Performance
Lack of bottom end torque makes traffic a pain, but the addictive top end rush more than compensates.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Never missed a beat, only problem was caused by dealer-fit alarm immobilising car, which has only ever happened once.
Image
Unassuming looks, draws minimal attention, but has status for those in the know.
Comfort
Fine for most, but I'm a big person, so the seat's not perfect, but hopefully a Recaro should sort this out. Noisy on long journeys, but you get used to it.

Security and Service
Security
Lease company insisted on Cat1, car has never been stolen but had 3 break-ins for head unit in 2 year period.
-
Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Valve clearance had to be adjusted early, but otherwise no problems in 120k miles.
Other
Dealer-fit alarm has been problematic, lots of false alarms, but never seems to go off when it's supposed to.
