Honda Civic Hatchback 1.8 VTi-S 5d (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Good price for a 140mph car, though Honda parts for the slightly tacky interior are extortionate.
Costs
About average for a car with this power, Honda's aren't cheap in the 1st place. Clutch is apparently very costly.

Driving
Great drive, though sometimes feels heavy and uncommunicative in the corners. Some torque-steer also.
Performance
Sluggish round town & at low revs, but above 6,000rpm it's very fast. Have to rev hard to get the most out of it. Country lanes are a favourite. Beats most rude boys. Windows down in a tunnel & you will be in aural heaven.

Living with it
Reliability
Apart from the usual dull/cheap Jap interior, nothing has gone wrong. Engine is a true workhorse. Reg servicing = no probs.
Image
I hate the modded car stigma attached to Civics. This car is pretty rare - tends to be driven by 35yr olds. Styled well externally.
Comfort
Firm suspension not to everyone's liking. But it's to my liking and that's what matters. Noisy on motorway.

Security and Service
Security
Immobiliser standard, no alarm. A recent break-in showed a screwdriver in the lock isn't enough to get in. A rock thrown at the window was though.
Service
Honda do take care of you but leave some money at home if you have mouths to feed.
