Honda Civic Type-R verdict

Should you buy one?
They won’t be easy to get hold of – at least at first – but if you like hot hatches then the Civic Type R is one of the very best around. Sure, it’s fast and it looks dramatic, but the feel, excitement and agility are borderline breath-taking. The controls feel perfectly honed, the driving position is spot on, and the capability – both on-road and on-track – is sensational.
And yet despite this, it’s still a very usable car. The interior has been improved considerably over the last version and the ride and refinement is more than acceptable. It’s a shame that there’s only four seats, mind, as otherwise practicality is also strong.
In short, if you want an attainable (ish) hot hatch that delivers the thrills and excitement of a six-figure supercar, the Honda Civic Type R should be at the top of your list.
