Honda CRX 1.6 VTi 2d (1994/L) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
High spec reliable car for quite a modest capital outlay.
Costs
Expensive for parts and consumables. Also quite thirsty (but a 12 year old engine design now).
-
On the road
Driving
Eats up country lanes with consummate ease. Not a car for the motorway, though. Well worth investing in some suspension and wheel/tyre improvements over Honda standard.
Performance
Blistering VTEC performance if required, but a very polite and forgiving engine in the lower RPM range.

Living with it
Reliability
Binding brakes/sticking calipers (the achilles heel of '90s Hondas) the only gripe.
Image
Quite a rare car. Less than 4000 sold new in the UK and about half as many imports again to date. Many complimentary comments and envious glances.

Security and Service
Security
As standard, not bad. Updated suspension and wheels/tyres can make it quite harsh, but offset by dramatically improved handling.
Service
Some Honda main dealers very lukewarm if you own an imported car, but generally good service.
