Honda Insight (2000 - 2005) 1.0i Hybrid Electric 3d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
This was the original hybrid technology demonstrator from Honda. They clearly made their point. I have done over 100K miles now at an average of 71mpg. The car body is 2+1-seat hatchback, but you can get an adult in the back for short journeys. The body is mostly aluminium (rust free and light weight) with some plastic, non structural, components. I have had it since new and it has never let me down. The battery capacity reduced somewhat recently, so I invested in a new battery pack and it is now like new. This is the longest I have ever owned a car, and I keep thinking it is time for me to get something new. But this car is as fast as you are allowed to be and very economical, looks and drives like a sports fastback, and nothing on the market today can really draw me away from such an imaginative design. It also has rarity value and has certainly become a classic. The value is going up now, rather than down.
How reliable do you find the car?
The car has been utterly reliable, never broken down or left me at the side of the road. I have recently replaced the battery pack, after 17 years.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
The unexpected is brought about by the high cam lift acceleration if you really stay in gear to get the revs above 400 toward 6000. This produces sports car acceleration, albeit rather reducing the economy!About their car
