Honda Insight (2009 - 2014) 1.3 IMA EX Hybrid 5d CVT Owner Review

I love the economy. Zero road tax, cheap to insure and good mpg. This weekend I’ve taken my family to Bristol and back (from london) for £20! I find the seats comfortable and I like the very light driving experience. Most of all I like how this car removes my aggression at the wheel. I’ve had all sorts of premium cars and they turn you into a monster. Rushing to the next jam because you want to exploit performance. In the honda I just waft along obeying speed limits. My only gripe is engine noise at motorway speeds. Oh, maybe the rear vision is another gripe - it’s pretty terrible. But overall it’s comfy, calm, quiet and economical. And has been totally reliable. My mother has had the same car for a few years more than me and I was always impressed when I drove it so got myself one. Hers has been fault free for about 6 years now. By driving calmly I get about 60mpg on a run and 48 round town. I’m averaging 50mpg over 3,000 miles so far. The stereo is pretty poor. It’s got plenty of bass but the treble is shrill and I don’t enjoy listening to it. The air con is excellent. The overall comfort is excellent. My previous £73k bmw wasn’t much better. To my surprise it has engaging handling and I do enjoy cornering in it. It’s a shame the engine doesn’t make a better noise as there really is no incentive to drive it hard. But that pays dividends with fuel. And I never feel my licence is in danger! Personally I love cruise control so that’s one accessory I wouldn’t be without. I’d have another tomorrow, no question.
