Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 32 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Although the Type-R can be a little thirsty and gets through tyres quickly, the costs are reasonable for a fast coupe, but abused models will be expensive to maintain, as parts are not cheap, so try to find a well-kept model that has no history of accidents. The insurance costs are unsurprisingly high; you will find most cars of similar capabilities around the Group 18 mark and you can’t have high power without paying for it.

This is yet another Honda model with that guaranteed Japanese reliability hallmark, so expect superb dependability and a top-notch build quality that just won’t let you down at any time. Do beware of thrashed or crashed used examples, as the Type-R tends to appeal to drivers with a penchant for speed, but mechanically and electronically it’s as reliable as clockwork.
