Honda Prelude 2.0 2d (1995/M) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Now dirt cheap, top models can be picked up for less than the same age Fiesta - and who wants a Fiesta?
Costs
Not great on fuel as it is a heavy car. Parts, only buy second hand or aftermarket, Honda will bleed you dry. Servicing, do all but the cambelt yourself to save pennies, it's all simple and all in the manual.

On the road
Driving
Handles superbly even on the limit, but is uninspiring being an FF car. Body rolls too much to be a serious sports car. Upgrade springs at least.
Performance
Good for a 2.0, but needs to be in the power band 3000-4500rpm to really pull. Get the 2.2 vtec if your insurance is up to it.

Living with it
Reliability
I abuse this car daily, but always warm it up and change service parts/fluids regularly. Currently over 112,000 miles and things are still looking good!
Image
A gorgeous body but ancillaries dated. Get new wheels, spoiler and exhaust, loads of parts available cheaply.
Comfort
Cool sporty seats as standard, loads of adjustment. Don't sit in the back...ever. Too comfortable, so I lowered mine and it is now much more exciting.

Security and Service
Security
Standard is poor, but you deserve to have your car stolen if you don't get a CAT 1 fitted aftermarket.
Service
Perform own work. Don't pay Honda for anything apart from cambelt changes/ engine internal work.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
None, but service regularly and oil change every 3k on older engines if you cane them. Short journeys are a no no!
Other
Handbrake is really poor- a characteristic of the model and cannot be improved much by adjustment or replacement. Leave this car in gear and NEVER park on hills.
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
No
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
Yes
