Honda Prelude 2.2 VTi 2d Auto (1999/T) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Couldn't do better. A quality car for very little money. Seriously undervalued, why?
Costs
Expensive servicing by Honda dealers. Parts Ok priced, so far. Very helpful at Blackpool Honda - even though it's an import.

Driving
Nice car to own. Not many about (only seen 3 others in 2yrs) High spec on imports, including non UK climate control. Imports are slightly higher tuned than UK cars too.
Performance
In auto mode, feels underpowered. And changes to 4th ASAP. I mainly drive around town in 3rd upto 60mph. In SSS semi-auto, loads better. Still need to keep above 3500rpm to drive like a sports coupe. Interesting 4WS. Needs firmer suspension.

Reliability
Couldn't do better than a Honda. No sign of any problems. Keep on top of servicing though, especially being a VTEC. Bumpers are weak and flimsy. Normal to burn some oil.
Image
Some like it, some don't. More class than any GTI look. Deceivingly long (bonnet) for a coupe. Loved in the USA. Many American sports kits, including turbo's pushing 350bhp! Metallic paints look good.
Comfort
High spec and nice interior, no room for adults in the rear and the boot is wide, but very low. Just fits a suit case. Not real leather and can get fidgety after 150miles. Good head room. Good suspension.

Security and Service
Security
Thatcham 1 required for stupid insurance companies. Insurance more than a Porsche turbo! Couldn't see it being easy to break in anyhow. No visible door locks and aluminium door frames.
Service
Helpful, but expensive. Got snubbed for having an import?
