Honda Prelude (1996 - 2001) 2.2 VTi Motegi 2d Owner Review
In their own words
Likes: Sleek, slightly understated sporty looks (It's a 2.2 VTi Motegi with kit + wheels); fantastic VTEC engine; silky manual gearbox; wonderful, subtle four-wheel steering, underappreciated by those who have spent too little time getting used to it, including a few motoring journalists! One notable exception being the late, much lamented L .J. K. Setright. who owned several Preludes and sang their praises to anyone who'd listen! (See his article 'Love is a Honda Prelude' Car Magazine, March 1997,) ; great performance; wonderful handling; a feeling of synergy - you become at one with the car. After owning it for almost twenty years, it's still a real pleasure to drive - puts a smile on my face every time! We also own a four year old, comfy, capacious, economical, reliable, bland Jazz. Yes, it does everything it needs to and is much better for a visit to the municipal tip, and I know this is a totally unfair comparison, especially as the Prelude has been slightly 'breathed-on' (around 230 bhp), but you get the point- one is ordinary, the other is not! If you enjoy driving and find a good condition 2.2 VTi buy it!!!
How reliable do you find the car?
We have owned it for almost twenty years during which time it has been almost trouble free. It's our third Prelude and fifth Honda, after a Vauxhall, three Fords and among others, many years ago, a British Leyland car, as well as several hire cars. Some of these were owned concurrently. None of them came remotely close in any way, except the previous Preludes!
