Hyundai i10 Hatchback SE Connect 1.2 MPi 84PS AMT auto 5d Owner Review

A Lovely small companion in my driving life ! Both for city wandering and long journeys - very impressive how reliable, safe and steady drives in high speeds ! The negative : low torque of the 1.2 lit engine. Yes, it is weak on overtaking. You must "plan" your overtaking (almost always with 4th or 3rd gear). Ok, I deal with it, I know I've bought a small car, I adapt my expectations. ΝΟW, ABOUT ΤΗΕ BIG DISPUTED MATTER , the AMT gerarbox : yes, it is not a classic smooth auto as one might expect. Yes, gear changes are programmed to be delivered early (for economy) and this is annoying and confusing. BUT : you can (and have to) learn how to drive this amt gearbox. How ? With the proper press of your foot on the gas pedal (cannot explain in words - only in action). You can regulate the time of the gear change, handle through acceleration and improve smoothness and the whole experience. And then you definitely improve all the function. Because it is a smooth AMT - Hyundai has made it good for what it is : a robotized manual transmission, that traditionally are jerky, but in this case they have succeded a smooth refined one ! Aditionally, all AMTs have to be driven with a significant percentage of the serial function (I do it about 60 auto - 40 serial) to get the vehicle in a balance over the variaty of the traffic, the roads, the routes, etc etc. So, it needs a little time to learn live with it, and it has nothing to do with the catastrophy the magazine reviews bring ! I drive autos only, for the past thirty years, I am aware of all (cvt, dsg etc) and this i10 AMT is - of course - something to pick, if you ask me, combined with the overall very good car.
