Should you buy one?

Yes. If the Hyundai i30 N hot hatchback is too boy-racer for your tastes, the i30 Fastback N is well worth considering. It succeeds in packaging all its energy and fun in a more grown-up looking body for only a little extra outlay and next to no compromises. Only if you regularly carry adults taller than six feet in the rear seats would we caution against it.

However, the small price increase does push the Fastback into direct opposition with some very established players, which is perhaps ambitious for a challenger brand like Hyundai. Attractive finance deals could make this a moot point, but it’s also worth considering the slightly less powerful, entry-level version of the i30 N hatchback, which is over 10% more affordable. Few buy it, but it’s arguably the best value, most rounded i30 N of all.
