Hyundai has moved the game on when you compare the i40 to the manufacturer’s previous models such as the ix35. The plastics and switchgear are much more solid and are of a better quality.

The cabin is much more driver-focused and the flowing dash design makes the i40 saloon a pleasant place in which to spend time. A downside is the central console on the dash, which is a little busy and not particularly user-friendly.

Hyundai i40 comfort levels are high even if you choose an entry level model. Up front the seats are comfortable and have adequate side supports when cornering. Bolstering for your back could be improved but the front seats have plenty of movement making it easy to find a good driving position.

The ride is a little firm so our advice would be to stick to the 17-inch alloys.

Move up to 18-inch wheels and you’ll find that the ride gets quite bumpy on undulating roads. There’s minimal road and wind noise and even in the diesel models engine noise is low.
