Hyundai i40 Tourer (2011 - 2020) 1.7 CRDi Blue Drive S 5d Owner Review

In their own words
I have given this car top ratings when you consider the price I paid was £16k new with fitted towbar from an online broker supplied through a Uk dealership. This absolutely blows the competition out of the water. The lack of feel from the steering is a true criticism of the car but it in no way impacts on my enjoyment as I don’t do track days. It makes up for this with a supple and refined ride, quiet at speed, soaks up the bumps and has fast accurate steering. I have previously owned a Honda FRV and a Honda CRV and this rides better than either of them and is much quieter. I am 6 feet 5 inches tall and am comfortable in the front of the car. I can then sit in the rear passenger seat directly behind my driving position and have bags of room for my legs there too as well as ample headroom so this car can sit people of 2 metres front and back at the same time which is unbelievable. That in no way impacts on the 553 litres of boot space either which matches Audi A6 Avant and BMW 5 series touring models but is less than the huge boot on the Skoda Superb which I would have bought had it not been £5k more expensive than this model. The boot has a lot of extra hidden storage compartments beneath the surface and to the side too, very impressive. It is a good looking car and my family and neighbours have all said so while they never mentioned my previous cars. My eldest daughter (15) considers this a status model whereas she didn’t with our CRV which was the 2008 model. I bought the base model and make do with manual air conditioning with outlets to the rear passengers too, electric one touch windows all round, automatic headlights, a great bluetooth sound system which has very good quality sound and is easy to use with the speech control. The automatic handbrake is brilliant and trouble free. The stop start on the engine works really well. Puddle lights on the front doors is a good safety feature and the automatic headlights are a boon too. It has a powerful 141bhp, 251ft lb engine which I will need for towing my caravan on the family holiday outings. No cruise control on this version and 41mpg is a tad disappointing when compared to the official figures but I do live in London, do lots of short journeys and rush hour driving so maybe to be expected. If you want lots of toys and leather then they are available on the higher spec models which still offer extraordinary value for money. I cannot stress how impressed I am at what I got for the money and don’t think there is anything else out there to compete for what I needed which was a large family load lugger that could tow a caravan. Oh I nearly forgot, a five year unlimited mileage warranty and 5 years road side assistance is included too, what more could you ask for.
