Hyundai Ioniq Hatchback (2016 - 2022) Hybrid Premium 1.6 GDi auto 4d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
A very competent Prius competitor, matching it for reliability and economy. The best bit is what my kids called 'Dad's Gear' when you drop a cog and the dashboard glows red! It has far more umph than you would expect and has surprised a lot of 'premium' cars in the process. Very comfortable on long journeys and I frequently do 400mile+ journeys in a day. Worst aspects are slightly iffy build quality, dubious dealers and no rear window wiper on a sloping hatchback!
How reliable do you find the car?
I could not find a replacement Prius that wasn't either an import or former taxi, so went for it's Korean copy (although beware of taxis). Not as well built as a Toyota, bits fall off although fixed under warranty. I'm not convinced it will match the 200k in the Prius. Reliable to run. Biggest issue has been the dealers. Hyundai is on a deserved growth spurt, but dealers are not a match for Toyota. One attempted to stiff me over a warranty repair, wanting the brakes done despite it having been serviced a month before. Car has subsequently passed two MOTs on same brakes! Would need great reassurance to buy one new without confidence in the standard of the dealers.
Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Surprised as others have been that the economy has been so good. Summer range is 600miles+ and winter rarely below 500. With all the issues over fuel shortages, eyewatering increases and the lack a competitive EV charging structure, this must be the cheapest way to travel today whilst minimising pollution. But why no rear window wiper?
