Hyundai Lantra Saloon 1.6 LSi 4d (1996/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Great value for money when bought secondhand, not so from new unless the car is sticking around for 3 or 4 years.
Costs
Hyundai filters etc are quite expensive over the counter; better off matching parts with your local motor factor. I've saved up to 70% on service items!

On the road
Driving
For the work I give it, this car is quite competent; nippy round town with a good broad spread of power for a 1.6.
Performance
Performance is something you get really above four thousand revs, although it does pull quite nicely below that. Can surprise other drivers with its turn of speed.

Living with it
Reliability
Has been totally reliale, but have noticed an intermittant light clatter from the valve gear, possibly a hydraulic tappet developing a fault.
Image
It doesn't have one. Face it, this isn't a BMW. However, anonimity does have its benefits.
Comfort
Surprisingly good. Seats are firm, similiar to some basic Vauxhalls, but well designed and good enough for long distances.

Security and Service
Security
It does have the usual ignition safeguards common on just about every car these days. Locks seem fair, but oddly the main key in use seems to have worn significantly, despite lubrication of the locks!
Service
Indifferent local dealer service, although the spares system is fair, using chassis numbers of the car for a precise part ID. Service and parts prices really can't be justified on a car this cheap.
