Six airbags (front and side airbags for front passengers as well as full-length curtain airbags) and electronic stability control are standard, but there is nothing that puts the Infiniti EX safety credentials ahead of any other car of this size and in this price bracket.

Look in the tailgate and the boot of the EX doesn’t appear that spacious. However, there is a small underfloor storage compartment (45 litres) and the rear seat backs fold flat. The EX also comes with an electrical raising mechanism for the seat backs to make it easier to return the passenger compartment back to its original state. All versions come with Scratch Shield self-repairing paint, which repairs very light scratches within days.

There is an optional ‘around view monitor’ that uses cameras placed in the front and sides of the car – as well as the rear – to display a 360-degree image of the surroundings when parking.
