Jaguar E-Pace SUV R-Dynamic SE D180 AWD auto 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
The 5 star statement is a bit over the top - it depends what your previous cars have been. This is a good, stylish SUV, prettier than most, if not all, its competition. Spec it up to improve its looks and make sure you have some of the toys fitted. I listen to a lot of music so made sure I had the Meridian sound system, which is superb. As it's the first car I have personally owned for many years, I am probably more careful with it than previous cars (although I've always looked after whatever I have had)., and in particular I drive at a steadier pace because I knew it would be thirstier than my XE - it is. However, when cruising along the motorway in ECO mode the E-Pace returns around 45MPG.
The auto gearbox is very smooth and the Dynamic setting with the Sport shift is great if you want a bit of (legal) fun - Lincolnshire and Norfolk have great B roads!
I also contacted the independent service place that looks after all our cars before I bought this and asked if they could service it according to Jaguar specifications; yes as long as they use Jaguar approved parts to maintain warranty conditions, because all the techs take a Jaguar course. It's a massive saving - Jag's dealer network charge £600 per service, a bit less if you buy a 'plan'. My first service bill on its first anniversary was £131.00 including VAT......yes, really!
The car is AWD and I still have 4mm all round after 21,500 miles.
The interior is roomy and comfy, with a big boot and split rear seats. The finish is high quality and the console screen good and clear. One tip though; don't rely on the built-in satnav. Jag aren't great at this and the 'Remote' link has never worked properly for me. I use Waze via Android Auto, which is the most intuitive system available.
I've had the car just over a year, with no issues, except one 'debug'. I love it, and whilst I appreciate most of the car mags give Volvo, BM or VW higher marks, unless you are specifically looking for the lowest cost vehicle, this car is way ahead on styling as long as you match your chosen colour with the right wheels. I went Black with Black Pack and Black alloys. For me its worth the extra road tax (which I had forgotten about TBH, but hey-ho!).
How reliable do you find the car?
Once I got used to the quirks with Android Auto (make sure your phone is switched on and open before you plug it in to the car.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
This is my 2nd new Jaguar so I had reasonable expectations. It's well kitted out and has lots of useful features. I find it comfortable and easy to drive. It's my first SUV and I'm very pleased with it.About their car
