How much space is there?

• Just two seats – and not ideal for tall drivers
• Boot is awkwardly shaped
• Interior storage lacking, too

As a relatively compact convertible, you probably wouldn’t expect the Jaguar F-Type to be overly commodious on the inside. You’d be right. It’s a strict two-seater, unlike rivals such as the Porsche 911 that have a rear seat, however cramped.

Taller drivers will need to carefully test drive the F-Type to make sure they fit comfortably behind the wheel, as there’s a fixed bulkhead preventing too much movement aft. The cabin’s at least wide enough that driver and passenger won’t be rubbing shoulders like they would in something like a Mazda MX-5, though.

Boot space and storage

The boot is nearly 200 litres in capacity which is plenty for a few weekend bags, but it’s an awkward shape with many protrusions and a fairly small opening which means it’s not ideal for hard suitcases or larger items.

Storage inside, meanwhile, is lacking – there are two cupholders and a shallow storage area under the armrest, but the glovebox is small and the door bins tiny. Larger items can go in a storage locker behind the front seats, but this is pretty awkward to access.

Is it easy to park?

Jaguar includes a full suite of sensors plus a reversing camera as standard, which make parking the F-Type easy  – ideal, as visibility isn’t spectacular, especially with the roof up. It can also be quite hard to judge the end of that jutting bonnet.

Of course, once you’re parked, the F-Type’s wide doors and low seating position make getting in and out a bit awkward.

Safety

The Jaguar F-Type hasn’t been tested by Euro NCAP, and is specialised enough that it’s unlikely to be. All other Jaguars have performed well, though, and the F-Type shares their aluminium structure and generous levels of safety equipment.

All F-Types come with six airbags, a reversing camera, blindspot monitors, lane-keeping assist and the usual suite of sensors for autonomous emergency braking. And crucially for a convertible, rollover hoops to keep you from being crushed if the car flips.
