What does this car say about you?

Willing to be different and try something that's not German.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

I've had "good looking car", "old man's car", "nice car but the styling's not for me". The wife thinks it's the best looking car I've had.

Would you buy this car again and why?

If writing a few years ago, I would say yes, in a heartbeat. It is all the car I need and I love the power. However, they are getting old now and by the time I come to change my car, even the newest ones will be too old to fit my requirements.

What are you likely to buy next?

Head says Skoda Superb 2.0TDi 170 Elegance. Heart says Jag XF 3.0d Portfolio.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £9,000

When did you buy the car?

    April 2014

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes and No. I could have sourced one for thousands less but the Jaguar warranty (we paid for an extra 12 months on top of the original 6) has come in very useful. So overall, yes.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

My Volvo S80 died, had to make a very quick decision as I need a car for work. It was between this and a 300C; the wife didn't like the Chrysler. Also S-Type is getting a bit old now so it was my last chance to own a car I've always wanted.

    What was the dealer like?

Helpful and knowledgable. Made the customer feel special, although constantly referring to it as "the Jaguar" was a bit over the top. Car wasn't ready on the agreed day so they offered me their XF demonstrator until mine was ready. A few niggles once I took delivery but all were sorted out with no argument.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Soaks up motorway miles with ease but also nimble round town. Plenty of power for everyday use and can cope with all but the most ambitious of overtakes. 245 width tyres means it corners like its on rails. There is a bit of turbo lag on take off but you learn to plan for it.

    What's it like to park?

Sensors front and back and a good lock mean I can get it into almost any space that it can fit into.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Had a gearbox sump seal leak and climate control electrics fixed under warranty. Now the front sensors are playing up; hoping the warranty will sort that out too. Auxilliary heater can produce comedy clouds of smoke but apparently that's normal.

What's most practical about your car?

It's more about style than practicality, having a very shallow boot. However it does have ISOFIX with top tether points so the child seat fits in nice and easy. The black leather is great for easy cleaning of child related marks.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Touchscreen with full 7 digit postcode satnav and built in bluetooth. I work all over the country and am on the motorway a lot so this is perfect for me. Also the seat and steering wheel move automatically when you get in/out to give more space.
