Jaguar X-Type Saloon (2001 - 2010) 2.0d SE (08) 4d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I have owned this Jaguar X Type since 2012. It is the 3rd one I have owned. That should tell you these are great cars which were unjustly vilified by the motoring press from birth. The interior of the car is pure Jaguar. Leather luxury heated seats wood trim all as you would expect. The diesel engine is a derivative of the ford transit and mondeo engine in that it shares the same block but the head and Management system was designed by Jaguar. The 130 BHP turbo charged engine is lively and pretty quick 30 to 70mph and far beyond if provoked. It cruises effortlessly on the motorway and can return some ridiculously high mpg in the real world conditions. At 60mph 57mpg is not unusual. At lower speeds even more can be achieved by the standard driver. In 11 years the only part I've replaced other than consumables or elective upgrades was a sticky caliper. 6 clean sheets at mot time on the trot. The car drives very well. Suspension is smooth and rides the potholes fairly well the steering is direct and gives lots of feedback. Fast cornering is fun due to the limpet like road holding with minimal body roll. It exudes confidence in all road conditions. With winter tyres added it will go anywhere in ice and snow. Standing hill starts are easy. Bad points are few. The standard headlights are diabolical and should be your first upgrade. The rear seats I'm told could be more comfortable but that doesn't bother me. The biggest fault with the car is that it isn't made anymore! Mondeo it is not . As Clarkston once said about the Xtype I share 99% of the same genetic makeup as a halibut, it's the 1% that makes the difference.
