Summary
What does this car say about you?
That I make a point of buying British when the product is competitive. And the colour says I'm still a lad at heart :).
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Everyone loves it.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Possibly. Current problem has dented my confidence - depends on how quickly/well it is sorted out, and if it behaves over the next 12 months.
What are you likely to buy next?
Possibly another XF, possibly a BMW 5, or Merc CLS. If business is less good, Passat Coupe.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£35,500
When did you buy the car?
June 2010
Did you get a good deal and why?
Not bad, but I could probably pushed them more. Admitted it had stuck owing to the colour (as the sheeple only want black/silver at the moment).
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
It wasn't black or silver! (lairy metallic blue/purple).
What was the dealer like?
Very, very professional.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Great performance from silky "S" V6 - you just would never know it's diesel. Sharp handling, though 20" wheels on the S make an already firm ride positively jarring. They look good - but one pays a big price. Utterly hopeless in ice/snow - but then so are all big RWD cars with flat slick tyres. Seats way too flat, but new model much better. Dials look old fashioned, and the decals vanish if you drive with lights on daytime, as I do. I have to turn the panel lights up and down - ridiculous.
What's it like to park?
Easy, with front and rear sensors, though I've caught the alloys pretty shockingly on the vicious kerbs outside my house.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Only niggles (folding rear seat catch gone twice, bluetooth lasts about a week each time) until now, at 42K miles. Loud "bang" at the weekend and power died. Intercooler box blew, apparently. In dealers currently. Mightily relieved I hadn't just pulled in front of a truck...and that it is still under warranty.
What's most practical about your car?
Mile eating ability. Decent, though shallow boot.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Electric handbrake. Electronic opening vents/gearshift. Interior lighting.
