Jaguar XJ Saloon 3.2 4d Auto (1991/J) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Pennies to buy, but more car than anything short of a Rolls.
Costs
Contrary to common belief, parts are no more expensive than other makes. If you go to independents rather than the Jag dealer (£8 for dist cap rather than £40!)

On the road
Driving
Generally excellent, but can be unsettled by mid-corner bumps and odd cambers on twisting country roads. But bear in mind this is a 13 year old car!
Performance
Heavy car, but it still leaves most things behind. Relaxed performance and you end up going a LOT faster than you think!

Living with it
Reliability
Not let me down since I got it. A few little things I need to sort, like the registration bulb contact being dicky.
Image
It's a JAG! Granted, probably the 'ugliest' Jag after the S-type, X-type and new XJ, but that's more because the others are SO good!
Comfort
It's a myth that it's small inside! 3 child seats fit easily in the back. Legroom is more than adequate (who needs more than a foot between the seat and the seat in front?)

Security and Service
Security
No problems. A factory-fit alarm/immobliser would have been nice. Completely separate boot makes it impossible to get into the boot without the key.
Service
No comment - not used the dealer for servicing. However, the parts department could not be more helpful!

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
It's a bit dirty. Needs a new distributor cap and rotor arm.
Other
It can be a tight squeeze in some of the less well-frequented corners of cumbria! Drivers of annoying little German junk bearing rings, stars or propellers (but we ALL have that as a problem!)
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
Yes
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
