Jaguar XJ Saloon 3.2 Executive 4d Auto (2002/02) Owner Review

Economy
Value
A brand-new luxury car with satnav for under £40000.
Costs
What you gain on the swings you lose on the roundabouts. However, not a problem as I drive only 6000 miles/year.

On the road
Driving
Supreme combination of refinement, plus that wonderful V8 growl from the bonnet. Silky auto transmission.
Performance
This huge car starts off at lights, and overtakes, effortlessly. Enjoyable on country lanes, even with my high-profile 16" tyres.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Mechanically, no problems, though there is undeniable evidence of some cost-cutting in the cabin.
Image
Ageless retro styling, which the new (2003) XJ has sadly lost.
Comfort
Extremely comfortable and quiet cabin the seats (and steering wheel) can be electrically adjusted to fit just about any driver. Rear legroom, though, is just satisfactory.

Security and Service
Security
Satisfactory, considering this won't be on many thieves' shopping lists.
Service
Not as great as other XJ drivers have reported. One dealer scratched my alloys on the first tyre change.
