What is miles per pound?
Fuel economy
A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test.
Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 18 - 27 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Very expensive to buy, run, insure and maintain. Original six and 12-cylinder cars are cheap but devalued by the arrival of the V8 in 1998. Depreciation has been very heavy, but is getting gentler as XJ ages.
Jaguar isn’t famed for its reliability, but the XJ has suffered no major faults. However, regular specialist servicing is essential and despite huge improvements build quality is still not quite up to German standards.
