Jaguar XJ Saloon XJ8 3.2 4d Auto (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
An expensive luxury car.
Costs
Fuel consumption, although better than a Daimler, is still not fabulous.
-
On the road
Driving
Never out of its depth. Pleasant when merely cruising, fun when the road gets interesting.
Performance
Not quite as fast as a Daimler either, but the engine is wonderfully characterful with a great sound.
-
Living with it
Reliability
1st in the Top Gear customer satisfaction survey says it all.
Image
A 7-Series is vulgar, an S-Class says 'executive cab', an A8 says dull, but an XJ is refined, aristocratic and elegant at all times.
Comfort
All the wood and leather you'd expect in a Jag, not to mention the lavish equipment specification.
-
Security and Service
Security
Factory-fitted immobiliser, alarm, and deadlocks, but I use a steering too to be sure.
Service
Main dealers now getting a bit pricey, so I'm now going to a specialist.
