Jaguar XJ Saloon (2003 - 2009) 2.7 TDVi Executive 4d Auto (07) Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
If you want a piece of classic British design and engineering that also offers modern tech and driving manners, you can’t go wrong with this big cat. If looked after properly, these cars will go on to 200,000 miles and beyond. Even with the one major bill, this car has cost me overall less annually over 5 years of ownership than most of the other 20+ cars I’ve owned. Unfortunately, it is not ULEZ compliant, so I’ll eventually replace it with a petrol XJ358, which is.
How reliable do you find the car?
One major issue: suspension bushes and linkages had be be renewed at 95000 miles, at a cost of about £2000. This is common with this model, and the work has returned the car to its original perfect ride quality. Otherwise totally reliable for nearly 5 years. Regular servicing by specialist around £250, tyres (preferably model-specific Pirellis) £100+ each.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Comfortable, quiet, smooth (especially after suspension remediation), well-equipped, safe, excellent ICE, beautifully crafted leather and wood interior, practical, great road presence. As for performance, you only know it’s a diesel when you refuel. Jaguar have done better than other marques to isolate and deaden diesel engine noise and vibration. I don’t think you’ll find a more refined diesel, even today. Although it’s a big car, it’s aluminium construction means it feels light and nimble; add decent acceleration and endless torque and you have, when you engage the sport mode and switch off the traction control, nearly two tonnes of fun. And all in a very classy package.About their car
