Jaguar XJSC Convertible 5.3 V12 2d Auto (88) (1988/F) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Oodles of classy style with size and power for relatively little. A good convertible will cost around £8,000+, with very good low mileage, low rust examples for around £12,000+
Costs
Running costs can be high if you want to keep the old girl in good condition or aim for continuous improvements, but short term cost of running on a shoe string for up to say two years could be minimal. Main dealers are the best value.

On the road
Driving
Rolls a little, but holds well. Smooth acceleration. Very smooth and comfortable ride.
Performance
Engine must be in good condition to attain a reasonable performance. Mine has managed 0-60 in under 7 seconds, just. 23mpg on the motorway, but goes down to 11 to 13 around town.

Living with it
Reliability
Always starts and runs well with no critical problems, but minor electrics such as heated seats and dash lights do play up.
Image
I chose this car two years ago when looking for the best combination of classic style with modern comfort, performance and reliability, and I remain entirely happy with my judgement.
Comfort
Difficult to keep out wind rush noise over 50mph.

Security and Service
Security
Felt the need to install a good immobiliser
Service
Main dealer in Sheffield provides an exceptional service, but have had varied experiences from a number of private specialists.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
replaced hoses and belts and have had the valve timing corrected, injectors cleaned. No real problems would confidently drive 1-2000 miles as is.
Other
A great classic, but not much room for the size of car. Choose service companies with great care and on recommendation if possible.
