Jaguar XK8 Convertible (1996 - 2005) 4.0 Sport 2d Auto Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
It's actually a 2001 on a 51 plate (the year selector box on the web page wouldn't let me chose the correct year) with a 4.0 litre engine and the 5 speed box. It's a facelift model with the separate head restraints. It's brilliant! It looks fantastic (dark metallic blue with a 'biscuit' interior) and is always being complimented on its appearance. Generally reliable so long as you keep the battery charged (I have a trickle charger) and with the exception of the timing chain tensioner and roof pipes that any XK8 convertible owner will tell you about. Never ever take it to a Jaguar dealer! A good independent will service it better and cheaper. Any major work on my car has been done by Chris Forbes in Coventry who is simply brilliant! The ride is exemplary and the handling is good but remember that this is a tourer rather than a sports car. Forget the rear seats as they're completely useless! The boot is good enough for a weekend away for two. Average speeds on the motorway will get you about 25mpg. A/B roads will be around 18 and busy city driving is best not discussed! I'll be keeping this for a long time but if I had to buy again then I'd definitely look at the 4.2 with the 6 speed box as it's just as powerful but more economic. Maybe an 4.2 XKR :-)
How reliable do you find the car?
Known issues with the timing chain tensioner and the hydraulic pipes to the roof latch both happened and needed to be fixed. Neither was cheap but now that they're done they'll probably stay fixed for a long timeDoes the car do everything you expected it to do?
I just feel good every time I drive it whether it's just to the supermarket or for a long runAbout their car
