Jaguar XK8 Coupe (1996 - 2005) 4.2 XKR 2d Auto Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
For sheer road presence, for the money little can come close. In black it looks stunning and turns heads. Has literally stopped traffic too.
Quite rare, so not likely to be passing another on the road (911s are ten a penny).
Goes like nothing I have driven before. Don't know how many of the original 400bhp is left under the bonnet but it shifts!
It's not economical, town diving is struggling to get 20mpg (30+ when sensible on the motorway), but you don't buy a car like this as a run about. It's for the joy of driving and the whole experience of sitting behind that incredible bonnet being surrounded by the gorgeous wood and leather interior.
Drive is smooth, perhaps a little soft (even with the sportier suspension) but it's not an out and out sports car. No manual option, 6-speed auto but is smooth and just pulls through the rev range. A definite luxury GT car. Easy to drive, quiet (unless deciding to open it up then it roars) and relaxing inside. Parking isn't too bad. It is a long car but not all that wide given its size. Ground clearance isn't bad, just be careful of the front overhang (plan ahead if a journey involves going up car park ramps).
Insurance and tax aren't as bad as may think (not for a 30 something with lots of NCD). Under £300 for fully comp.
May change my mind as the costs build up, but it's something to treasure and spend on as a treat. Afterall, it's a Jag!
Treat yourself, get one!
How reliable do you find the car?
No biggies, wheel balancing needed a tweak and a switch pack on the centre console needed replacing when some switches stopped springing back (found a good used second hand part and changed myself). Too early to tell what it's going to be like in the long term for keeping it on the road.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Incredibly smooth drive, quieter than I expected under normal driving (engine roar and supercharger whine only kick in when going some). Boot is very practical. Rear sears are useless, though I don't buy a car for passengers but for myself.About their car
