Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Limited 5d Auto (LT) (1999/S) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Value has dropped with introduction of the new Cherokee but certainly retains its value well compared to Landrover.
Costs
It's a four litre straight 6, but who buys a 4X4 looking for 40 mpg? Even a diesel is going to be sore on juice in this league.

On the road
Driving
A most enjoyable drive, a GTi beater in a straight line. A comfortable cruiser with superb leather seats and a good driving position.
Performance
This is a very quick 4X4, very impressive smooth acceleration and the engine sounds magnificent when pushed.

Living with it
Reliability
The mechanics of the beast are unbreakable but watch out for electrical gremlins, especially in the instrument binacle which can switch of the clocks now and again.
Image
Its getting a bit dated but so am I. This is a Jeep, it's a family workhorse with more style than its Japanese clones and a bit of history.
Comfort
Extremely comfortable for those in the front. Lack of legroom in the rear has always been a problem unless you are 12 years old. Very well finished although some of the plastic trim is brittle and poo.

Security and Service
Security
Immobiliser but no alarm.
Service
Very poor initially but I changed dealerships and have had very good value. They have changed problematic alloy wheels three times at no cost.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Unbreakable.
Other
I run on permanent four wheel drive. Ideal for tyre wear, doesnt really effect mpg.
