Jeep Grand Cherokee verdict
Should you buy one?
Jeep has introduced a lot of technology, engineering and luxury to the latest Grand Cherokee in the hopes of winning over some of us in Europe enough to want to buy one. While the car’s list price is technically a good chunk less than most of the competition, and a lot of equipment and space is offered for the money, there are quite a few elements of the Grand Cherokee that aren’t competitive against cars like the BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne or Mercedes-Benz GLE.
What we like
The impressive amount of space for occupants inside is a real plus and, even if you pick the most basic model of Grand Cherokee, a lot of attractive equipment is standard. It’s also impressively calm and comfortable on a long-distance motorway cruise.
What we don’t like
The plug-in hybrid powertrain isn’t that competitive when it comes to range or refinement compared to cars like the X5 or Cayenne, and the electric range is far from the best that can be offered from the segment, too. While lots of equipment is on offer, the interior design is messy in some cases, and the Grand Cherokee feels like an overly large car to drive on the road.
