Jeep Grand Cherokee (1999 - 2004) 2.7 CRD Limited 5d Auto Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
Of road or in the snow with proper tyres it is immense (Goodyear Wrangler AT/SA) , likewise when towing our large twin axle caravan or horsebox it's great.
For normal use however it is horrific.
It is like driving a normal car but with the suspension replaced with a dodgy mattress, it bounces and rolls allover the place on uneven windy roads and you are constantly having to compensate for it, the headlights are also terrible and given that they are an unusual fitment, nobody sells uprated bulbs for them.
Likewise the gearbox, it works but it is just so imprecise. It just seems to take forever to change gear when you put your foot down so there is quite a lot of lag from hitting the gas to getting a change in speed, probably over a full second.
The interior, considering the price of these things when they were new the interior is also terrible, it feels like it is mostly made using cheap, hard plastics, the seats are saggy, the leather on the steering wheel feels saggy, the panel where the heated seat switches are located tends to fall apart, I have replaced ours twice now. The stereo is also pretty terrible.
If you are going to be using it offroad or for towing something heavy ie using the car properly then i'd recommend one, however if you never intend to leave the tarmac do yourself a favour & get a Mondeo or Passat estate instead.
How reliable do you find the car?
A few small niggles such as a split fuel hose, broken window regulator & dodgy handbrake, not expensive to fix & never actually broken down.About their car
