In their own words

Overall, this has been a great car. If anyone buys one thinking they are going to be whisked around in Range Rover like luxury, or X5 like dynamics, they will be let down. However if you buy it for what it is - a tough as nails, go anywhere, truck then you will be pleasantly surprised. It is reasonably quick and has a great Mercedes engine in the front. It also has high spec (leather and alcantara electric seats, cruise control, sat Nav, climate control, heated seats, parking sensors, rear DVD player) as standard. It's clearly no b road blaster, but when settled on the motorway it's comfortable and quiet, although a sixth gear would be nice. MPG is as advertised and I tend to get about 27 on mixed use and it can hit 30 on a motorway run. The interior looks and feels cheap, with rough hard plastics, and some sharp edges, but it's tough. I bought this car at 7 years old with over 100,000 miles. It's now nearly 11 years old with 140,000 and has been on a number of long drives without issue (including to the Alps in the snow and the French Riviera in 39 degree heat). In summary, it's great for what it is. It's not the best car to drive, it's not the cheapest to run, it's not made of the highest quality materials, but it will go anywhere, has shown no signs of conking out, is robust and tough, has lots of kit, is quick(ish) and comfortable as a cruiser and I like its American looks and character. It's a lot of car for little money.

How reliable do you find the car?

This is a relatively high mileage vehicle, and one which doesn't have the best reputation for reliability. However, in three years it has taken us to the Highlands, Northern Ireland, Cornwall, skiing in the Alps and last summer to the French Riviera and back (in 39 degree heat). The only problem that was not just wear and tear was a split in the fuel pipe, but a local garage fixed that for £20 do really can't complain.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Yes, it is what it is. It's not going to drive like an X5, but it's comfortable on long journeys, can go anywhere and take a bit of a beating. It's tough inside, if not high in perceived quality and has a lot of gadgets. It's also reasonably swift, particularly in the mid-range as it has quite a torquey engine.
