Jeep Renegade 1.4 Multiair Limited 4WD 5d Auto Owner Review

This is a fabulous, cheeky little workhorse. perfect size and shape for city streets, but properly capable off road too. Nice interior, very comfortable.
The only drawback is the ZF 9 gearbox with this 1.4 engine. Too many gears, not enough torque, too jerky and too clever by half.
Gearbox mandates a 3500 rpm thrash at cold starts before it will shift. Also tries to engage engine braking downhill. but so clumsily that the car accelerates before it engages. Slowing down for a stop, lie a traffic light is like riding a pony - broncing and jerking through gears in "trying" to help the driver. It doesnt. The arcane 4 speed auto in my old Forester was a thousand times better than this in use.

It hasnt completely ruined my experience with this otherwise smashing car, but I do not like it.
