Should you buy one?

As a value for money proposition, the KGM Korando looks quite good on paper. The low cash price, generous equipment tally, space, and excellent warranty support could tempt you into taking the plunge. Also, don’t let the new name put you off – this is a pure rebrand of the old SsangYong model, and as such, continues the brand’s strengths in towing, practicality and reliability.

But there’s a problem, and that’s finance. Yes, it has a low cash price, but monthly PCH rates don’t stack up to the opposition. Comparing the Korando to a Kia Sportage or Skoda Karoq that you’ll get for less per month, it’s very difficult to justify the KGM in terms of performance, quality and efficiency. Plump for a Dacia Duster or MG ZS or HS for a significant chunk of cash less per month, and it looks even less competitive.

KGM could well find its feet and finance gets friendlier in the future, but as it currently stands, it’s very difficult to recommend.

What we like

The low list price is tempting if you’re paying by cash, and you get an awful lot of car and equipment for the money. It’s also refreshingly user-friendly in a world of touchscreen over-reliance.

What we don’t like

It’ll cost a fair bit on finance and it likes a drink, too. And while it’s OK to drive, rivals offer better comfort, agility and driver appeal.
