Should you buy one?

As a value for money proposition, the KGM Korando looks quite good on paper. The low cash price, standard four-wheel drive, generous equipment tally for your money, and excellent warranty support could tempt you into taking the plunge. Also, don’t let the new name put you off – this is a pure rebrand of the old SsangYong model, and as such, continues the brand’s strengths in towing, practicality and reliability.

It’s very spacious, packed with equipment and should prove a good towcar thanks to its combination of high towing limit and high kerbweight. The styling and interior look good for your money, and should help make a case for the model.

But there’s a problem, and that’s finance. Yes, it has a low cash price, but monthly PCH rates don’t stack up to the opposition. Comparing the Korando to a Kia Sportage or Skoda Karoq that you’ll get for less per month, it’s very difficult to justify the KGM in terms of performance, quality and efficiency. Plump for a Dacia Duster or MG ZS or HS for a significant chunk of cash less per month, and it looks even less competitive.

KGM could well find its feet and finance gets friendlier in the future, but as it currently stands, it’s very difficult to recommend.
