KGM Rexton verdict

Should you buy one?
We can think of one very specific reason in which we’d recommend the KGM Rexton. If you need seven seats, impressive off-road performance and absolutely need something brand new, the KGM Rexton makes sense. If not, there are better ways to spend your money.
If you need the seven seats but don’t regularly need to venture off road, an all-wheel drive Skoda Kodiaq or Kia Sorento would be far nicer to live with, not to mention more comfortable. If you need the seven seats and something rugged enough to tackle the rough stuff, a used Toyota Land Cruiser will run rings around the Rexton for the same price.
It is perfectly adequate if you need a dependable workhorse that’s good off-road, has a high towing capacity and lots of space in the back, but it’s not the bargain it once was and severely off the pace for on-road performance.
What we like
The Rexton is huge. The front two seating rows have loads of space and even the third row offers enough room for two adults to get reasonably comfortable. It’s also very well equipped, with the most basic model coming as standard with big-brand luxuries like ventilated seats and heated rear seats. You won’t be disappointed by the car’s off-road ability, either.
What we don’t like
The Rexton is very uncomfortable on the road, which makes it tiring to drive long distances. The steering is also very poor and runs out grip if you ask too much of it in a corner. A hybrid or a plug-in hybrid powertrain would have been welcome, too.
