Kia EV6 GT verdict
Should you buy one?
There’s no doubting that the Kia EV6 is a fantastic electric car, and the GT is a worthy upgrade for those who simply want the best possible performance. However, we suspect most people will find the regular dual motor EV6’s 320+ hp more than quick enough, and its far greater range even more appealing.
It’s also worth noting that the EV6 GT is firmer riding and noticeably less refined than the regular EV6. While we’d happily put up with the stiffer springs for the improved handling and body control, the roar from the performance-spec tyres is quite irksome.
If none of that is a concern and you do want a high performance EV, we’d certainly recommend the EV6 GT over the Ford Mustang Mach-e GT. It’s also proved more entertaining and comfortable than every version of the Tesla Model Y we’ve sampled so far.
What we like
Acceleration is truly rapid and the GT feels more agile than the regular EV6. Charging times remain impressive and the interior is just as plush and usable as the regular car.
What we don’t like
There’s a lot more road roar from the tyres and the rear diff feels clunky when manoeuvring. The big one is that the range is so much worse than the standard car.
