Kia Niro SUV (2016 - 2022) 2 1.6 GDi 1.56kWh lithium-ion 139bhp 6DCT auto 5d Owner Review

Had a Toyota Aris Estate Hybrid, which I PE in for the Niro. Was sold on the Niro on the test drive I had in it. Hated the CVT box in the Auris, so never wanted another car using that transmission. Being am octogerian just in 2020, the increased height of the Niro was another plus point, for us. The price used against the E version, which interested me when I was considering the Niro, ended as a no brainer, the used E version being £33k against the HEV, at £17.5 K, meant I would never re coup the difference. This has proved to be the case, when you factor in running costs, as used. Servicing I have now gone back to the Toyota franchise serving outlet, rather than a Kia, as they are local to me, and the invoice me using Kia spec parts, to keep to the spec.
Two problems have arisen. The first was down to no PDI check being done when I purchased the car, in that the rear window de mist/frost panel had partly failed, was replaced in 21 on the first service. Then in 23 the blower motor failed which was replaced in the 6th year warranty period.
Would I buy another, yes, with 2 things to take into account. 1) Think my March 2017, will still be eligable for zero road tax when it comes in in 25, which is a saving & 2) A PHEV might be more use now I do not drive far, but the hybrid still gives a good return on fuel.
As to what could be better, a softer ride as French cars seem to be able to offer, but their tack record on reliabilty compared to Kia, plus Kia 7 year warranty, which hands on th SH buyers, is a bonus not offered by the majority of the big manufacturers.
