Summary
What does this car say about you?
I am not really sure what this car says about me but I definitely know what I feel about the car. I have owned a wide variety of vehicles in the past 20 years and I would happily swap this for another one of the same.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Some are surprised that I am driving a Kia as I have often owned rather oddball non-mainstream vehicles in the past such as a Subaru Tribeca, an Opel Speedster and a Renault Avantime. Having said that those who know my driving tastes well enough will regard my decision to go with the Sorento as a signal of the car's true abilities and not my early onset dementia!
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes, undoubtedly. This is a wonderful package which has been sold short by the motoring press. There have been absolutely no shortcomings with my Sorento so far. None at all.
What are you likely to buy next?
Kia Sorento KX-3 Auto.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchise
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£27,000
When did you buy the car?
June 2010
Did you get a good deal and why?
I got a decent deal from Arnold Clark Kia in Aberdeen. They were easy to deal with and keen to do a deal for cars imminently coming into stock which suited me down to the ground as my time-frame was quite compact.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
What was the dealer like?
The dealer was excellent from start to finish and that certainly played a part in my decision.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
This is not a sports car but the performance is way beyond adequate and the ability to put all the torque down onto the road through the keen auto box when picking off trucks and slow moving vehicles is superb. Most of my miles have been on the open road and I have just finished a near 2,000 mile trek from Aberdeen to Tallinn, Estonia via Harwich, Holland, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. That drive was completed at 4am this morning and apart from feeling jaded by the sheer distance I have had absolutely no physical after effects from the journey. The cabin is spacious and comfortable and generally a nice place to be. The long drive through Poland can be a nightmare with the huge amount of HGVs trundling along regular two lane roads.
What's it like to park?
The Sorento is a big car but the lock is decent and the rear sensors are pretty accurate to my experience. I have no problems parking at all and generally the only problems could be credited to my own sloppiness!

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong to date in 6 months and 11,000 miles. Everything has gone like clockwork up to now with no fuss. I had my first service 10 days ago as I am certain to pass the first interval whilst abroad on my winter holidays and I notified the service department that there seemed to be a little oil usage, but only a little. I was informed that this seems to be the norm but it is only a very small amount that I have used - maybe half a pint per 2-3,000 miles.
What's most practical about your car?
The driving position is excellent and that would be the best thing were it not for the massive torque available through the auto box which for overtaking is truly fantastic.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The lockable 4WD has been used a lot in the past few weeks in the cold weather and has made for sure-footed progress.
