In their own words
I wanted a PHEV, my choices came down to the XC40 or the Kia Sportage. In the end the Sportage won out because it beat the XC40 in several areas. The main one being EV range, XC40 = 27 vs Sportage = 43 miles. I tested both on the same day and they were very different. The Sportage was larger in terms of interior space, more comfortable and had a modern slick interior packed with both safety and entertainment tech.
My particular requirements are suited to the 43 (real 35-38) mile EV range. All my local day to day journeys are under a 40 mile round trip so I get the most out of the EV range. This has to be a consideration when looking at a PHEV, its not a good performer MPG wise if your daily commute is well over 40 miles. Though even on long motorway journeys I can still get 40mpg with careful driving.
After 5000 miles and 8 months the car has been faultless. I just love driving it and in particular love the smart cruise control, it takes a lot of stress out of Motorway and start/stop driving.
My only gripe would be the slightly harsh ride on our potholed roads, mainly due to the weight of the battery and the 19 inch wheels, but give it a good road and it glides along nicely.
