Land Rover Discovery Sport 2.0 TD4 (180bhp) SE 5d Owner Review

The car is very capable off-road, but that is where the positives end and the capability off-road is useless when the vehicle enters limp mode because of a basic sensor/electronics fault (as happened to me). For such a "premium" car, the service and quality you get are substandard. The electronics follow Land Rover's reputation, so don't buy all the gadgets/add-ons and expect them to last the lifetime of the vehicle. The biggest letdown of the vehicle however is the reliability/very costly non-fatal errors. Since owning the vehicle I have had to take it to the dealer to have an early service warning reset on numerous occasions. The service interval is 20,000 miles or two years, in some instances, the service warning triggered 2000 miles after the previous service. As soon as the vehicle was out of warranty I have had a whole host of issues with the "emissions" control measures on the vehicle. There is a serious design flaw somewhere, of that I am sure. While I am no expert, from extensive reading online it all appears to stem from the exhaust system not getting up to an appropriate temperature to clear the DPF. I can vouch for this, I have run my vehicle on longer motorway runs regularly to keep the DPF clear, and still have had issues with both the DPF and the EGR flow. The vehicle has definitely not covered enough miles for an EGR issue to be present without a fundamental design flaw. I would avoid any future land rovers at all costs. You could not pay me to own another Land Rover, Range Rover or Jaguar based on my experience of owning this vehicle. I will stick to manufacturers with a better track record in the future.
