Land Rover Discovery 2.5 Td5 Adventurer 5d (7 Seat) (2002/02) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Paid £28k, offered £26.5k 10 months later!
Costs
It drinks fuel, even as a diesel. I get about 24mpg and that's driving carefully, but I guess that's normal for this type of car. Haven't owned long enough to know about servicing etc.

On the road
Driving
No driver's car. Not fast or fun, it just gets the job done. Fine on motorways, B roads, wading though flooded roads or mud driving. Thinking about swapping for a Volvo V70 (AWD or XC).
Performance
Slow to get going, but once it's moving in 2nd or 3rd gear it has terrific power and speed. 4th/5th life gets slow again. Had the dealer 'tune' the engine up a bit, makes some deference but not much.

Living with it
Reliability
Had number of problems, most minor cosmetic with the exception of oil sump and built-in sat nav system which both had to be replaced.
Image
Looks good, without be flashy in a Rage Rover/Jeep way. At home in countryside or town.
Comfort
Seats comfy and have high ride position (front and back). Cabin is bit dated. It's not all that big in terms of legroom/space too as the outside would have you believe.

Security and Service
Security
It's got an alarm etc. Also I had the basic Tracker fitted as my last car (not this make) was stolen, plus we now live in the low risk countryside.
Service
Dealers seem very helpful (I've been to them enough) and all the troubles have been fixed by 1 or 2 visits.
