Summary
What does this car say about you?
That I don't want to look like a footballer, but looking like a rugby player is acceptable. That I wanted a Discovery before they pimped it up and made it more desirable to the people of Chelsea in 2016.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Everyone that has seen, been in, has any knowledge of this car loves it. It genuinely is amazing. Before I bought the car I did a half day off road experience in one at Luton Hoo. If you are considering one, do one of these experiences and your mind will be made up.
Would you buy this car again and why?
If it wasn't changing shape, without a second thought, even though this one should last me a long, long, long time. I would have to wait and see what the 2016 Discovery 5 looked like before commenting. If they make it anything like the Discovery Sport, which is in my opinion, horrible, I won't be.
What are you likely to buy next?
Discovery 5 if it has a similar, rugged appearance. If not, I have no idea.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£45,000
When did you buy the car?
March 2015
Did you get a good deal and why?
Yes. I got a quote from a few dealers and there compared them against each other. With car, start from the base model and work your way up. Much better value for money, unless you want a built in sat nav and wading sensors as standard.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I finally realised that I was too tall for my normal estate cars, so finally went and bought a car I have always dreamt of owning.
What was the dealer like?
Used Guy Salmon in Kingston. Very good dealer, hassle free and gave a very good price on my part ex even. Although the mileageon my part ex ended up being higher than originally agreed, there were no issues with price and they gave me as promised. Kept up to date with everything.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Amazing. On the motorway I don't think you will get much better. Awesome acceleration for a massive truck (almost as quick as my old vRS diesel) but make sure you slow for the corners as it doesn't like to corner at speed (as you would expect). To date (5k) I get around 25 mpg around town and 33 mpg on the motorway at safe cruising speed. Overall, brilliant.
What's it like to park?
Remarkably easy. With the cargo barrier my vision is slightly masked behind, but I rely on the rear parking sensors (standard on SE) and they work brilliantly. I can honestly say that I am finding it easier to park in my urban street between parked cars in comparison to my vRS estate without sensors.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
It has a couple of annoying rattles from the B Pillars and one of the headlamp washers seems to have come loose. This is all booked in though to be dealt with under warranty.
What's most practical about your car?
Everything. I am 6ft 7in and there is room behind me for someone the same height to sit again. I have added a cargo barrier and divider so don't use the third row of seats. Massive boot, ample room. Amazing.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
I went for the SE and added extras such as leather, tow bar, privacy glass, cargo barrier / divider and changed the wheels. I don't want much in life and the base model with those extras has more than I will ever need. Air suspension makes for a gorgeous ride.
