Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Didn't buy from a dealer
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£795
When did you buy the car?
January 2011
Did you get a good deal and why?
I bought my first one new in 2000 on a 'W' plate with the deisel engine. A pig of a car, in three years had as many gearboxes and repairs by the dealer must have totalled the original cost of the car. Then got used 1.8 petrol 3 door (private buy). Great tow car and all rounder never had a misfire or single problem. Then a TD4 five door follwed by two 1,8 petrol 5 doors. Petrol is least problem, most (all in my case) repairs can be done yourself. Unlike TD4 that needs Dealer to do the smallest thing. If Going for Mark one, go for the petrol version.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
This is my FIFTH variant of the original Freelander 1. I've had both petrol/DI and the TD4. All have been used for towing a 2 berth Bailey 460/2 caravan around Europe. All great tow cars, the best being the 1.8 petrol!!!! (rearing is excellent for towing my 1000klg caravan.
What was the dealer like?
First new purchase, the dealer was terrific.

A square box shape, where the bonnet ends at the front the car ends, where the rear mounted spare wheel ends that where the back ends, Easy to park with good lock and good power steering.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
You name it, it has gone wrong at some time on any of them, so, you get that on any car you but second hand or even new.
What's most practical about your car?
Carrying and towing capacity.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Seating, high up, 4 wheel drive, gearbox, visibility, everything about them is great as far as I am concerned. My wife thinks the same and my eldest son has a TD$ now............. Speaks for itself.
