Land Rover Freelander (2006 - 2014) 2.2 Td4 e S 5d Owner Review

In their own words
We bought this suv believing that a Freelander 2 would be a quality reliable upmarket vehicle a 2010 TD4e S. How wrong we were!! The actual solidity of the bodywork and driving position and practicality could not be faulted. It made an exellent towcar and was very comfortable with an upmarket image. Now for the bad points. Fuel economy was poor with average mpg of 34 for our regular use in comparison to our 2.0 tdci 150 Kuga which on the same journeys averages 46 mpg. The Landie was heavier on tyres with uneven wear and road tax double that of the Kuga. Servicing at main dealers is expensive. Reliability was a bit of a nightmare after 12 months of ownership. The biggest issue was with the electrics and transmission. Known fault....haldex 4wd system plays up with regular Transmission fault warnings on the dash with 2wd being engaged until fault is rectified. Rear differentials are known to go occasionally. The costs of repair runs into thousands. The clutch began to slip at 50000 replaced with dual mass flywheel at some cost. Throttle body housing was wearing also. You have been warned ownership can prove to be costly as well as extremely frustrating. I can honestly say that for its age it was the most unpredictable and unreliable vehicle i have ever owned.
