Should you buy a used Range Rover Evoque?

From the moment it was launched the Range Rover Evoque became the default choice for those looking for a premium-but-compact SUV. That’s selling the Evoque short – it has the engineering and capability to justify the Range Rover badge, and it’s a testament to Land Rover’s vision that it made the rest of the car so appealing to conventional car buyers that it sold in huge numbers.

Perfection only goes as far as the style and the concept – the execution and reality is compromised. You can see and make your own mind up about the cramped interior and poor rearward visibility for the size of car, but the build quality and reliability record is disappointing for a vehicle that could easily cost 50% more than similarly-sized rivals when new.

However, the experience when buying used may be more satisfying than when new. A fairly poor score in the Parkers owners’ reviews reflects the expectations of new buyers, with used buyers generally happier with the cars they bought. They also back up the idea that the Range Rover Evoque to avoid is the eD4 manual.

Get the right trouble-free example, and a used Evoque is a very satisfying car to own.

What we like about the Range Rover Evoque

Sharp styling that has aged well, thoughtful interior design that delivers a truly luxurious, high-end feel in a relatively small package, clever and overall reliable 4x4 tech (a step up from the Freelander), satisfying road manners and acceptable economy.

What we don’t like

Overpriced at the lowest end of the market due to desirability, poor reliability record, not as good for towing as rivals, cramped boot and rear seats, high insurance in some areas.
