Generally an incredible car, the best i've owned to date. It's a pleasure to drive, very engaging, yet comfortable and luxurious with all the toys you'd expect on such an expensive car. Build-quality is excellent (bar the odd gremlin), it's a massive step-up from the previous model Range Rover Sport which was heavy, cumbersome and not very sporty at all. This one is extremely rapid, handles well for a 4x4 and generally does feel worthy of the "Sport" tag. Equally, long journeys are comfortable and a breeze. I get to my destination feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
I was let down a lot by the official Land Rover dealers, who have been on/off depending on who i've used (two dealers so far). Buying the car in the first place was a nightmare, with certain dealers showing no interest at all in actually helping me buy one. I Finally found a semi-interested dealer (it grates on me that i had to actually pester them to buy a car!) but the salesman made me feel like i was an inconvenience, which was irritating considering after i'd specified the car, the cost was over £88,000 and no doubt his commission was considerable bearing in mind all he did was sit on his backside whilst twiddling on his iphone all the time.
Lead-in period for a new car when i ordered it was a very reasonable 3 months, but the dealer didn't keep me updated on progress and i had to chase the factory for updates. In the end, the factory themselves phoned and emailed to inform me the car had been built and was going to be taken to the dealership. The Dealership took another week to tell me the same thing, and then another week to discover that it'd actually already arrived. Awful service, never again.
Was then not allowed to collect the car until a software update had been issued by the factory to get the gearbox working properly. Cue another irritating two week wait. Update arrived and it still didn't work properly. Cue another week for a "fix" before i was allowed to collect it.
Servicing pack is worth it's weight in gold, considering it needs topping up with Ad-Blu fluid quite a lot (usually 5000-7500 mile range), and having seen how much a minor service can cost. Don't miss out on buying a service pack - it's essential if you don't want to end up financially destitue at service time.
Other things........ mine has eaten all it's brakes in less than 25,000 miles, requiring new discs and pads all round. Discs wear at the same rate as pads, and a dealer will charge around £620 for rear discs and pads alone, fronts are even more - brace yourself. My advice - go elsewhere. I used a local garage who replaced the rear brakes for £290 using Ferodo parts, which are much better quality than the OEM parts which don't seem to last the distance. It is a heavy car, but still, replacing pads AND discs this often is shocking.
It's had it's fair share of recalls, mostly for software updates and to fix things that didn't work properly (mirrors, seat memory, steering wheel column controls, suspension control, gearbox tweaks), but other than that it's not put a foot wrong.
Despite my gripes about the dealers, the car is incredible and i'd happily buy another one. The weak-link seems to be the local dealers who obviously regard me as an insufferable oik not worthy of ownership.
How reliable do you find the car?
Minor gripes - auto dipping mirrors didn't work properly, seat memory function had a mind of it's own, as did the steering wheel.About their car
